This evening, I received an email from Google notifying me that the Google My Business chat is coming to a close.
The email reads, “We are reaching out to share that we will be winding down Google’s chat feature in Google Business Profile on 31 July 2024. We acknowledge that this may be difficult news. As we continually improve our tools, we occasionally have to make difficult decisions that may impact the businesses and partners we work with. It’s important to us that Google remains a helpful partner as you manage your business, and we remain committed to this mission.
Google will stop creating new conversations after 15 July and chat functionality will fully end on 31 July. Please note, customers will still be able to find and contact your business via Google Search and Maps – and learn more information about you from your website links, business description, photos and anything else that you share on your Business Profile.”
Our thoughts
We receive a lot of spam via our Google My Business chat app. It’s pretty obvious that it’s automated. The irony is that most of this spam targets digital marketing and SEO.
However, many clients, especially those targeting local areas, receive genuine inquiries directly from Google.
What are the options for these clients moving forward?
Chat plugins are a game-changer for enhancing customer experience and streamlining communication on your website. The ability to engage visitors in real time, resolve queries promptly, and gather valuable insights is just the beginning. But what if there’s more to these plugins than meets the eye? Stay tuned to discover the hidden potential of chat plugins that can revolutionise your online interactions and elevate customer satisfaction levels to new heights.
You should certainly look at another chat function when this has been discontinued.
Features to Consider
When considering chat plugins for your website, focus on critical features to enhance your customer support system. Look for plugins that offer real-time messaging capabilities to assist your website visitors instantaneously.
Choosing a plugin that supports multiple chat agents is essential, allowing your team to handle inquiries efficiently. Integration with other tools like CRM systems can streamline your customer support processes and provide a seamless experience.
Customisation options like chat widget designs and chatbot functionalities can help tailor the plugin to fit your brand and customer needs. Chat analytics and reporting can provide valuable insights into customer interactions, helping you improve your support services.
